3-Minute Weekly Updates from Too Lost
Ever find yourself pressing play, only to skip the song after just a few seconds? In an era where our attention spans rival that of a squirrel, capturing interest early on is crucial. A great song can easily slip through the cracks if it doesn’t grab attention fast enough. It’s a real struggle to navigate, but here’s the silver lining — it’s a new opportunity for independent artists to get their music heard. 🌏 💫
Song Lengths and Stream Rates
Short songs aren’t just trendy, they’re smart. On Spotify, a stream only counts if the song plays for at least 30 seconds. The average length of a song comes in at a little over 3 minutes, but more and more artists have been playing around with shorter tracks to minimize their skip rate. In the new Too Lost analytics update, you will be able to monitor your skip rate and completion rate for each release in your catalog.
Shorter tracks can often get to a bridge or a memorable part of the song earlier, so first time listeners may be more willing to complete the full song. If someone really likes a short song and wishes it were longer, they’ll play it again, aka double streams for the artist. 📈
Shorter songs may also help your chances of landing playlist placements. Spotify often favors shorter songs in editorial playlists, especially when featuring a newer artist. Independent artists, take this as your sign to go for it and drop that short song you’ve been thinking needs more — it may perform better as is. 🚀

Artist of the Week: Eric Reprid 💥
Eric Reprid is a 24 year old hip-hop/rap singer from Vancouver who put himself on the map in 2020 with his album “Cold World.” The title track quickly became the most popular song on the album. It’s a slow tempo, catchy rap song with lyrics that are quite heavy; the themes of loneliness and self-medication resonated with many listeners. “Cold World” earned him a nomination for Canada’s Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year, making him the first independent artist to ever receive a nomination. ⭐️
His latest single, “SUKI,” is currently blowing up on several social media platforms. The live performance already has 3 million views on TikTok. Stream “SUKI” here: https://too.fm/suki
