Artist of the Week: New West
From the bustling music scene of Toronto, Ontario, New West has emerged as a dynamic force, blending nostalgia with a contemporary edge. You may have heard of New West when they were crowned Breakthrough Group of the Year at the 2024 Juno Awards, which seems to be just the beginning of their rapidly ascending music career.
New West’s music is a fusion of influences, blending the charm of Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead, and The Beatles with the cutting-edge sounds of Toronto’s own The Weeknd and Daniel Caesar. Their tracks explore themes of yearning, infatuation, and introspection, all wrapped in rich instrumentation and evocative lyricism. Each member contributes as both songwriter and instrumentalist, fostering a collaborative spirit that sets them apart from other bands and artists.
Their latest track, 'HAPPIER!' just dropped and is a shining example of what fans have come to love from New West. The impressive vocal performance, timeless lyrics, and a melody that sticks with you long after you’ve heard it, combine to make this song a classic. DSPs have also shown this track plenty of love. It’s currently featured in multiple editorials, including Spotify’s New Music Friday, Apple Music’s Indiy, the cover of Anghami’s New in Alternative, and more!
As they build on their momentum, it’s no surprise that they’ve amassed over 11 million listeners on Spotify alone. With a rapidly growing fanbase and a series of standout releases, New West is undoubtedly a band to watch as they forge ahead in their journey.
